Which is better for future financial security: engineering or statistics? I've been studying engineering, and I do love it, but I'm told that there is much greater financial security in a career in statistics. I like statistics too, probably not as much as I like engineering. I've also heard that statistics is not as tiring at the end of the work day, compared to engineering. I am talking about electrical engineering specifically. Is statistics really a peach of a job and high paying as people claim?
Happiness doing what you love or happiness in financial security? I was born into a low income background and through the years my parents built up our family's financial security. I know what it's like being poor and I never want to experience it ever again. I am attending university and have a passion for history, but I know that I need to take care of myself and my family and I am almost finished with a degree in business. Most of my friends are liberal arts majors and they always chide me for my choice in my major. The things is, they come from upper middle class backgrounds and their parents can afford to let them do what they want. So, this is a question to business majors and to anyone who can offer sound advice, should I stick with the business degree? I don't hate business, but it is not something I am passionate about. I would especially love to hear of the experiences of people who have/had found themselves in my situation. Thanks!
Which is better financial security or the slow death of the soul? Tired of my meaningless corporate job. Lately, I've been thinking of doing another stint teaching overseas, maybe in Argentina or Uruguay. Of course I'm not getting any younger, but I find what I'm doing now is absolutely meaningless. So I pose the question in general: Which is better, financial security and a freedom from the fear of old age poverty, or living one's dreams? And why is it most of us seem to choose the former?
How can I establish a plan for long-term financial security with my current income? I'm married and 28 years old. I currently own a large amount of a small pink sheet stock, have a small 401(K) from a previous job, own a home, and make an above average salary. What programs are out there, like money markets, annuitys, etc. I also am interested in incorporating my home business. Any information on how to prepare for my future financially would be awesome! Thanks!
Is it selfish of me to want my fiance to enlist for financial security? Not into the Army or anything that would get him sent overseas, but just the Coast Guard? He wants to work with computers and obviously they have that as an option.. We both grew up pretty hard off and neither one of us wants to live like that or for our kids to grow up the way we did. He's going to college at the moment at a Community College and I'm transferring to a small college to get my degree. Am I selfish? How can I bring up asking him to think about it without sounding like I'm nagging?
financial security for moving to australia? What are the avg living costs for a two bedroom apartment in or near sydney? Also, what are financial suggestions for four college graduates moving to australia permanently?
Can a change in financial security cause a change in overall mood? I guess this is just another way of asking can money make you happy? Which leads to another question. Can a lack of money make you unhappy or sad? I'm not saying that I believe that money can buy happiness. However, I do believe that money is a necessity in the U.S. and the more that you have the more you are able to enjoy and experience. As an american who has been in the work force since early 90's I can honestly say that the vast majority of stresses that I have experienced have been related to finances. I am interested in what other's think.
To have complete financial security, how much money do I need to make yearly? What I mean by this is the ability to buy/have a house, family, car, food, utilties (etc.), healthcare (insurance, family), and recreation. How much money/salary/yearly income is necessary for me to buy/have any (or all) of these things without set-backs in my budget. I'm looking for that type of security. How much yearly income would fit those criteria? Thankyou....for example: $100k, $300k, $500k, etc...... P.S. I would like to consider inflation as well. Location: Also the security to afford to live anywhere in the United States. Thankyou
Did McCain or Obama ever address your financial security issues through-out the entire campaign? What most of you fail to understand is that if we the legal citizen majority had absolute rule & control over money/business/govt with all levels of government & business as well managed fire at will employees, we the people would have them in check instead of the opposite that currently exist! When McCain definitely make it clear last night that he was against "speading the wealth'.
What political candidate in is talking about the financial security of your family & USA's? Is congress willing to let you rule & control over money? Notice how they vote in their own raises and have the best health care plan money can buy! Why do let them have such lavish living large lifestyles while you get fleeced? By the way i am for ending representative government! Turning all levels of government into fire at will employee's managed by wiser senior's with good FICA scores.
what can i do now to make my financial security as likely as possible? im a second trimester college freshman and im freaking out about my future. I want to become financial secure after seeing how so many people fail to. Not neccesarily any thing unreasonable like a multimillionaire but just wealthy. Im currently a history/english major but again im only 2nd trimester so i can begin a new major easily. I want to work in business but our uni only offers econ majors. i wanted to go to law school, but part of my desire is to have a comfortable and relatively stress free life. i dont mind working hard even for 70-80 hours a week, i just want some control over my life which lawyers seem to like. i dont possess the mind for science that it takes to be a doctor. ideally i want to get an MBA and work in some upper mnagement position. is there any advice you can give me? i dont even know what major to take. is econ worth it? i will get a lower gpa in econ because im not so strong at math however im sure i could pull off a 3.5 at least (3.9 currently)
What matters more, financial security or happiness? In a relationship that provides financial security but lacks support, motivation, intamacy and emotional needs. I can't say times are always so bad, but I feel very alone and emotionaly neglected. I'm affraid of leaving due to our financial situation. I don't know how I'd make it on my own, it can be done, but is it worth it? I'm 27 and not sure if trying to start over is the right thing for me at this stage in the game.
Does the current financial situation spell doom for the insane idea of privatizing Social Security? As terrible as the current Social Security system is, can you imagine what would happen in a financial situation like this if those funds had been invested on the private market? Now that things are changing, are any public figures still convinced that people can be convinced to turn their retirement money over to corporate criminals? Is anyone still pushing this Ponzi scheme? Is it all over for the privatization lunatics?
True or false: Men marry for sex, women marry for financial security? Seems like it to me. If a man isn't pleased sexually in his marriage or isn't getting any sex, he'll get it from someone else, and willing to destroy his own marriage for sex. And look how many married couples divorce for financial reasons. I'm sure many people will say "they get married because they love each other", but 50% of the time, money and sex are more important than love, thus ending in a 50% divorce rate in this country. True or false?
Is there a way to get more financial assistance (than Social Security SSI) for parents of a disabled child? My in-laws run a medical foster care home. They receive $2k-$5k per month from the state of Oregon for each medically disabled foster child. We receive only $600/mo maximum in SSI to care for our own biological son. It is our understanding that we cannot receive that same assistance from the state. He is very hard to care for, and I would like to know if there is a way to get more assistance, so that I can stay home and care for my son. I don't know how my wife does it by herself, and takes care of our other two children at the same time. Please don't think I'm just looking for more money. I wish I could just continue to work and provide for my family, but he is getting to be increasingly hard to care for as he gets bigger. Right now he's only 18 months old. We don't want him to have to be cared for by others. We want him to stay in our home.
Marriage for financial security that is non-existant? My husband is a friend, has allowed me the opportunity to home-school my daughter and basically allowed me to "slack." As of late, he has decided to "limit" me on my spending, while he controls all of our finances. I am frustrated, am new to my area and have submitted my resume to several places with no avail. How can I make him respect my needs? My daughter is in school now, and I am more than willing to go back to work to contribute to our household. The problem, really, is that I would rather swing it as a single than deal with a control issue. So now what?
Who should have financial security first in USA? 1. The legal citizens of USA 2. Employers & business that abuse/exclude/underpay workers. 3. Federal Gov't prints what they want via congress. 3.B State governments It is really a question of who has rule & control over money, right now the citizens have NO say under corporate/Fascism. http://www.oldamericancentury.org/14pts.htm http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/fuzzymath
